Performing Hajj

Hajj, is Islam’s fifth pillar and the most significant manifestation of Islamic unity and faith. Undertaking the Hajj at least once is a duty for Muslims who are physically and financially able to make the journey to Makkah. The family first is the emphasis that is made for the Muslims to take care of their families with the finance they have.  Hajj requires the person to be both healthy and physically good to undertake the pilgrimage as it requires the person to travel a lot, so he/she can focus on praying the almighty.

Performing Hajj is one highest dreams in any of the Muslim’s life. If asked to any Muslim, their aim or dream is to perform Hajj and Umrah, to get blessed by the almighty. Hajj is performed during a five-day period in the twelfth month as per Muslim lunar calendar from the dates ranging ninth through the thirteenth of Dhu Al-Hijjah.

Few of the people were able to “make their way” to Makkah for the pilgrimage. This was because of the hardships encountered, the length of time the journey taken and the expense associated with it. Some pilgrims travelling from longer distances, even have dedicated more than a year or more to their journey.

During the period of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdul Aziz Ibn Abdul Rahman Al-Saud the Hajj pilgrims were given more importance and the facilities were made to make the pilgrims happy. All required facilities have been established for the stay, safety and security of the pilgrims. Steps were also taken to provide facilities and services that include improved housing, health care, hygiene, and transportation.

Today, though the rituals at the holy sites in and near Makkah have remained unchanged from the time of the Prophet, the setting for the pilgrimage and the facilities available to the pilgrims are a far cry from those that existed at any time in the past. In the past whoever when through the hardships thought and believed that’s its a part of the pilgrimage and they even assigned a trusted family member to fulfill their wishes in case they did not return from the journey. Muslims today visiting the pilgrimage receive a warm welcome on their arrival in Saudi Arabia and facilitated with all their basic requirements and services possible. With the facilities available today, the pilgrims can focus on their spiritual aspect of the Hajj.
